9.20.2010 The little tiger arrives

At 6:08 pm PST, little Evan popped into the world weighing in at 6 lbs 15 oz and measuring 19.5 in long.  He cried for a few minutes and then quieted down until he was subjected to all sorts of checkups and his first bath.  If the first hours were any indication of how he'll be, it seems he won't be too fussy.  When the doctor first pulled him out and (after some cleaning) put him on the light/heat table, my heart was bouncing up and down and I didn't quite know what to do (in terms of touching him).  I was shooting videos and photos continuously while the doctor and nurses tended to both Evan and mom.  When I finally touched him, it was an extremely light touch as I didn't know how fragile he was and didn't want to disturb him too much.  After a while I started to hold his little hands and the tiny fingers/toes.  He wanted to sleep more than anything else, though we did get him to breastfeed almost as soon as he was cleaned up.  That night, I wheeled him in the clear-plastic bassinet to the recovery room, tightly bundled (swaddled) so his arms and legs were all scrunched up, like in the womb.  That night none of us got much sleep, and that's the way it should be :)

Here's the video of his first bath while still in the delivery room:
